Who Am I?

I love both the arts and the sciences. It's probably why, in the end, I gravitated towards a career in UX. From development firstly, and then into design, my background leading me into UX has been varied. I meandered naturally into it and have since discovered that it is the perfect profession to utilise all of my skills. And that brings me a lot of joy and satisfaction :-)

I believe that everything I've gone through, learnt and experienced has helped shape me into the versatile UX generalist that I am today.

The development years

I started my career tinkering with code and building websites as a front-end developer. I enjoyed it and it gave me a solid grounding in building for the web, but I have to admit, when I saw the UX guys, with art supplies all over their tables, making paper prototypes, I did think 'That's so cool!' And I guess that's when the UX seed was first planted...

The design years

I took on some design projects and really started to learn and hone my skills in web and graphic design as well as how to run a business. After a stint freelancing in Hong Kong, I then joined a design agency back in the UK and specialised in graphic and web design. It was also here where I introduced UX processes, including building HTML prototypes, to the workflow.

The UX & product design years

After all these years, what I've found is that I'm happiest at the intersection where design, science and business collide to create cool things and I really enjoy strategising, designing and building cool things.

Good UX in my opinion should draw from design backed by psychology, analytics and other science-based user research activity. It should also make sense from a business/development point of view. For these reasons, I feel UX is perfect for me. I'm a logical yet creative problem solver and have a deep appreciation for the design and technical sides as well as the business aspect.
